Could TV get any more boring?
I love High Definition TV. It is the best picture! And I can watch ALMOST anything on it because it looks so good. Which is probably good since most of the programming we get on HDTV is not great. Last night we found something so boring on HDTV, that we couldn't even stand to watch it - even with the great picture. It was called "Eclipse Live: Antarctica" and WOW, was it boring? We turned to it and there was a black screen with the sliver of the sun showing and there were people commenting on what was happening. Austin said, "what's next on this channel? Stay tuned to watch grass grow..."
UPS
Yesterday I went to an
AIGA event that was about the rebranding of
UPS. It sounds like they were a great company to work with. They had a hard time getting the company to change their logo (Paul Rand designed their logo that they had been using). The new logo is simplified and nice I think. But, wow, I thought I was detail-oriented. But not even close compared to these people.
FutureBrand did a really beautiful job, I think.
Athens
Austin and I went to the GA/Auburn game this weekend. It was a great game. It is really fun to watch the Georgia defense this year. Anyway, here is a list of things that I either miss about going to school in Athens or that just remind me of Athens:
(and yes, a lot of them are restaurants. so what?)
The Grit
Sanford stadium
Caliente Cab
The Tanner building
The Tate center
The Library
Beautiful North campus
Coffee from Espresso Royale or Blue Sky
Walking downtown for drinks and going back to the graphic design building to finish projects
The Engine Room
Jittery Joe's
The intramural fields
Rubbing shoulders with famous designers/illustrators like Ralph Steadman and David Carson (although he was a little creepy).
Seeing Michael Stipe downtown and talking about what a jerk he is.
Bubbles in the hot tub at College Park
Some of the best parties in the world
The chickens across the street from College Station Apartments
Working on drawing lots of suns with Ashley on her glass coffee table
Burning Peeps
Hanging out at Becca and Caroline's apartment.
Fourth of July fireworks battles with neighbors
Most of all, living less than 20 minutes away from most of your best friends in the world.
Christmas in November
I love Christmas! I just think it is the best time of year! We went out to the Mall of Georgia becasue
Alien was playing there. I had never seen it before, so it was great to have the opportunity to see it on the big screen for the first time. But anyway, the Christmas decorations were out at the mall and it was really cold that night, so it really made me feel like it was almost Christmas. And we saw
Elf last week. It was kind of a cheesy kids' movie, but it was so funny and so cute and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
My Little Sister
Congratulations to Rebecca and Jake who are now homeowners! They closed on their house yesterday. They bought my uncle, Tom's house. My dad actually built it years ago when he was still building houses. So, as Jake said, they are living in the house that Jack built and if the house was made out of logs it would have been uncle Tom's cabin that Jack built. Anyway, it's great that they have their own house. I know they will be happy there. Unfortunately, Rebecca is really sick right now. The doctor thinks she probably has strep or mono. We hope that it isn't mono. If it is, she'll be feeling bad for awhile and I don't think she can afford to miss very much work. Keep your fingers crossed!
Sania's getting married!!!
Well, I just read on
Lacey's website that
Sania is getting married! I am so happy for her. Now I will know another married graphic designer/lawyer couple. I'm so glad I got to meet Ashen at my party. I think they will be very happy together. Congratulations, Sania!
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Ughh!!! Monday, again! I can't believe how stressed out I am already at 10 am on Monday. I have too much work and no time to do it. The nice thing was, I got the Communication Arts design annual in the mail this weekend. Every year I look forward to a retrospective of the year's best design pieces. It always is a beautiful and inspirational thing to look through. There was also an article talking about the progress of design and the reluctance of most designers in the 80's to start using computers. It was very interesting. It was also talking about how now, in the graphic design world you almost always need a brain that can work on both sides. You not only need the creative, free-thinking artsy side, but now it is necessary to know the technical computer stuff too. Sure, Macs are supposed to be made for the right-brained but when they start freaking out or doing things wrong, the hero is the person who can get behind the computer and fix it. And to do web design, you need some left-brained activity going on. I need to wake the left side of my brain up so I can start figuring out all of this website stuff. In time, I suppose...
BLAH!!!!!
I don't really know what to say today, so here are some things I have been thinking about posting lately. Totally random, I know.
Watched I love the 80's strikes back. It was so funny to watch. I couldn't stop smiling thinking about things like Rainbow Brite and Jelly shoes and Bon Jovi. What a strange decade it was!
Saw the third Matrix movie. I thought it kind of sucked. The special effects were cool, but the storyline was total crap this time around.
We are meeting to order our bridesmaid dresses for Ashley's wedding tomorrow. Too bad I'm so fat.
I am totally overworked. Too many things to design!!!
I really wish I could think of more interesting things to say right now, but I can't... TGIF!
